I live in the San Francisco Bay Area with my son, Iggy. I became interested in coding because I wanted to supplement my analog artistic practice. You can see my work at www.carlosdevillasante.com. I am fascinated with the digital medium and how easily it can connect people from all over the world. The process of web design is one more avenue to disseminate my work and artistic vision. I learned to build websites from scratch just as I learned to make oil paint from its basic materials.
I am excited by the potential of finding new communities and allies and friends in the design-development world. I Love that I can use the same sensibilities it takes to make art and apply them to coding and designing elegant and original websites.
I began my journey in art and design after graduating with a painting degree from RISD. I went on to get an MFA from Memphis College of Art in 1999. I have been showing and teaching at the university level since then. You can see my work at www.carlosdevillsante.com. My love for graphic and web design grew out of necessity. As an individual artist I designed and printed cards, invites, press releases and anything else that needed designing. I relied on friends and favors to design and build my websites but always found it frustrating that I couldn’t do it myself.
I also learned to rely on design principals when painting murals and other artworks for public display.
I have further adapted and refined my design knowledge for the digital world. I have a solid grasp of Illustrator, Indesign and Photoshop. I excel at UX and UI, and resonate with the philosophy of simplicity.
I can handle all stages of digital or graphic design from concept to launch and or print . I also offer photography and branding services. My extensive knowledge of art and art history has helped define my sensibilities and understand how to visually articulate ideas.
After nearly Twenty years of teaching art I am excited to pivot towards a new form of expression that is so dynamic and versatile. I am also looking forward to collaborating with clients, designers, and developers!
